BUTLER ORCHESTRA

The Butler Rock Orchestra is an audition based group with members ranging from grades 8-12. All members are enrolled in either the Butler Orchestra program or the Butler Band program. The Butler Rock Orchestra was created under the direction of Katie Vercek in the Spring of 2016 due to a great amount of student interest in performing strings in a rock setting. The Rock Orchestra performs 3 concerts per year and does an "elementary tour" to the various elementary schools in Butler. The Butler Rock Orchestra has performed at the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, Carnegie Mellon High Note Music Festival (superior) and was selected to perform at the 2020 PMEA State Conference.

The Rock Orchestra combines the elements of a classical orchestra with the rock band vibe by performing rock and pop hits arranged for strings with the addition of keyboard, electric bass, and drum set. Unlike a classical orchestra, the members stand while performing and use various lighting effects in their performance.
